RACI Matrix

Projects require many people's involvement, and cooperation and teamwork are crucial to the final success. Therefore, it is important for the stakeholders to understand the conductibility and responsibilities of each person who is related to any respect to the project. RACI matrix is proved to be one of the most popular tools to represent this information. The acronym RACI stands for responsible, accountable, consulted and informed. It brings structure and clarity to describing the roles that stakeholders play within a project, which is commonly used for balancing roles and responsibilities in the Six Sigma methodology.

Edraw RACI matrix software is an easy-to-use matrix drawing tool coming with extensive symbols and templates. With only a few clicks, you can gain a good looking RACI matrix diagram for your six sigma analysis.

Understand RACI Roles

  1. Responsible: Person or stakeholder who is the "owner" of the work. Persons who are assigned to do the activity to achieve the task. They have responsibility for completing the work or decision made. Several people can be jointly Responsible.
  2. Accountable: The person who is the owner and accountable for the thorough completion of the task. This must be one person and is often the project executive or project sponsor.
  3. Consulted: Those who are not directly involved in a process but provide inputs and whose opinions are sought.
  4. Informed: People or stakeholders who need updates on progress or decisions, but they do not need to be formally consulted, nor do they contribute directly to the task or decision.

How to Create RACI Model?

1. Identify all the tasks involved in delivering the project and list them on the left-hand side of the chart in completion order.

2. Identify all the project roles and list them along the top of the chart.

3. Complete the cells of the chart identifying who has responsibility, accountability and who will be consulted and informed for each task.

4. Make sure that every task has a role responsible and a role accountable for it.

5. No tasks should have more than one role accountable. Resolve any conflicts where there is more than one for a particular task.

6. Share, discuss and agree the RACI Matrix with your stakeholders before your project starts.
